April 2017 News

There has been so much happening so far this year, I thought it was time to write a news article. Sponsorships, new lighter weight pens, discounts for charities, demonstration pen and more.

First off, welcome to my new website! There are a few articles that lost their pictures in the move (the content didn’t change), and a few links from the old site no longer work, but bear with me, the articles will get fixed, and google will re-index and we will be grand! Overall though, I think it is far better, and be sure to check out the new gallery page!

The next big news is that I am taking a break from Natural Bridges Horsemanship Training. For the last few years I have been very busy working with extreme problem horses. While I found this incredibly rewarding, I was finding it somewhat stressful working with all of Irelands extremely dangerous horses. It also meant that Round Pens Ireland was pretty much completely ignored. Keeping focus on 2 businesses is difficult, especially when one can kill you if you lose concentration.
So I took the decision to take a break from one to give my attention to the other. I am still offering round pen lessons and training videos, and who knows what the future may hold for Natural Bridges.

In other news I am so happy to announce that I am going to be sponsoring Emma Massingale by supplying her round pens for her next project here in Ireland. I am very excited about this as Emma is doing incredible things with horses, and being able to assist her is fantastic. She requires a much lighter round pen, as it needs to be much more portable, and that brings me to my next bit of news.

I am working closely with my manufacturing company to design and build a lighter, less expensive, much more portable round pen. It will retain all the amazing features of my current round pens, but in a lighter version. I should hopefully have these available for sale by June, so keep an eye out for pictures and prices.

Not a lot of people know, but my round pens are manufactured 5 minutes from my home in County Leitrim. This means I have complete control over every aspect of their manufacturing. I personally check every panel and gate to be sure they stand up to my high standards. Nothing leaves the yard without my approval. This also means I can work very closely with the engineering company to be innovative and cutting edge. I am proud to say that my round pens are far superior to anything available in Europe in strength, durability, design and safety. I won’t mention the “wall of death” pens, but I personally hate the idea of being locked inside a round pen with no easy way out.

Continuing on the theme of manufacturing there is 1 small bit of bad news. Although my pens are made pretty much on my doorstep, they travel into Northern Ireland for galvanising. With brexit, everything in the North has become more expensive, and galvanising is one of them. I reluctantly had to raise my prices in February as the cost of galvanising rose by 23%! I took a small hit, as I was not willing to raise my prices by that much, but if you are a return visitor from 2016, you may have noticed the rise. However, they are offering a 40yr guarantee on their work, so thats a bonus.

With Natural Bridges, I worked with a lot of rescue horses, and I always wanted to find a way to help the people who take on the absolute over abundance of horses in this country. With this in mind I have decided to offer a 10% discount to all rescue centres, sanctuaries or charities. They do amazing work and are often times the unsung heroes of the horse world, taking in horses and donkeys when no one else will. I hope this small token will help some of them out.

The last item is my demonstration round pen. I have recently erected a 40ft demonstration round pen here in Leitrim. It is available for viewings and lessons. People are free to come up and try the round pen on for size, climb on it, kick it, knock it around, bring your horse, get a lesson, or just turn them out to see. I guarantee, once you see it, you will want one. Pictures do not do it justice. It is a beautiful piece of kit, and honestly a must have for everyone. I love it and I know you will too. No more fences to paint, boards to fix, rotten posts to dig out of the ground, built to last a lifetime, and its beautiful. A real work of art. I am proud they are my creation, based on the best of all the American round pens I have ever worked in.

That’s about it from here, I had 4 round pens shipped out this month, who will get one next? Will it be you?
